Complete FLA-FRA Schedule Here Read what the Press has to report about FLA-FRA Concerts • Cajun Music from Louisiana: The Savoy-Doucet Cajun Band plays honed down, hard core Cajun music laced with an earthy sensuality. Marc Savoy (accordion, vocals), wife Ann (guitar, frequent lead vocals), and Michael Doucet (fiddle, vocals) are today's old-world masters. Saturday, April 11. • Guitar Music from France: Adrien Moignard has become the leading guitarist of le Jazz Hot tradition, which began with Django Reinhardt in the 1930's. With flawless technique, he has become the hottest performer in Paris' jazz manouche clubs and DjangoFest events throughout the world.Friday & Saturday, April 17-18 • Contemporary Dance from France: Ivory Coast-born dancer/choreograper Nadia Beugré will perform Quartiers Libres (a French expression meaning "free territory", "limitless space"), in a raw and unbridled performance in which she confronts and resists that which seeks to oppress. Friday & Saturday, April 24-25. Click on the images above for details and ticketing for these not-to-miss concerts. Sunrise Beginning on April 1 and continuing each and every each morning in April, 2015, a FLA-FRA event we call Sunrise is happening, right on the beach. Each of these five-minute events represent a a silent tribute to a musician, philosopher, painter, dancer, composer, writer, poet from a French speaking country. Each day, a different person is filmed at the beach during sunrise while contemplating this figure of their choice. The five-minute video is uploaded here to YouTube daily. Each event occurs in one of two spots on the beach: at the Haulover Beach Dog Park, 10800 Collins Avenue, or at Pier Park, 101 South Pointe Drive just south of Nikki Beach. Films "Jean Cocteau" – Three evenings, each screening a classic Cocteau film will take place at two different venues in Miami Beach. All films are in French with English subtitles. • At the Miami Beach Cinematheque, the first and last films of Jean Cocteau's "Orphic Trilogy" will be shown. The Blood of a Poet (55min, 1930) screens on Thursday, April 2, at 7pm. Testament of Orpheus (80min, 1960) screens on Thursday, April 30, also at 7pm. • At SoundScape (on the wall of the New World Center) the classic Beauty and the Beast (93min, 1946) will be shown on Thursday, April 16, at 8:00 pm, in an inviting, outdoor setting as part of "Films on the Beach." Culture Clicks and More There will be much more going on during FLA-FRA: Twelve Culture Clicks will feature local South Florida artists doing their thing à la française: playing the accordion and showing French travelog slides, standing in a park dressed like Napoleon Bonaparte, dancing to an animated French film in a theater lobby – mostly fun and quixotic, occasionally serious, all free! Complete FLA-FRA Schedule Here Download the FLA-FRA Brochure (3 MB PDF) French Corners On Wednesday, April 22, at 7pm, Tigertail and FLA-FRA join Books & Books in Coral Gables in the launch of French Corners, with musician Vincent Raffard. When the French Embassy opened Albertine Books, a new reading room and bookshop in New York devoted to bringing to life French-American intellectual exchange, it simultaneously opened up a lively conversation on French books with independent bookshops throughout the nation. Mitchell Kaplan at Books & Books helped inspire Albertine's French Corners program, which launched recently and offers a curated selection of French and Francophone titles at independent bookstores across the country. Treasure Hunt On Sunday, April 12, from noon to 4pm, a French-themed Miami Treasure Hunt (une Chasse au Trésor) took place in various locations. First prize was dinner at a Miami French restaurant. Second and third place winners received VIP tickets to FLA-FRA events. All Chasse participants received a vintage French medal. Click here to find out who won |
