with her trio

Born and raised in Miami of a French mother and Haitian father, Cécile McLorin Salvant has skyrocketed to stardom since we first saw her at the Spoleto Festival USA in 2012. Possessing a deep, velvety voice, rhythmic poise, and a sublime feel for the blues, she combines conservatory-honed technique acquired at the Darius Milhaud Conservatory in Aix-en-Provence, France with a beguiling gift for lyrical interpretation. In 2010, she won the Thelonious Monk competition. Cécile performs unique interpretations of unknown and scarcely recorded jazz and blues compositions. She will be accompanied by an all-star trio consisting of pianist Adam Birnbaum, bassist Paul Sikivie and drummer Lawrence Leathers.

Cécile stole the show at the Arsht Center isn December when she appeared with Winton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.

"If anyone can extend the lineage of the Big Three – Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, and Ella Fitzgerald – it is this 23-year-old virtuoso."– Stephen Holden, The New York Times
