Join us to a weeklong residency with nationally recognized Latino gay spoken word poet Emanuel Xavier that
includes workshops and an open mic for GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered), youth and readings
throughout Miami. Emanuel has published two books of poetry and a novel, is the editor of the groundbreaking
anthology Bullets & Butterflies: queer spoken word poetry, is a two-time Grand Slam winner at the Nuyorican Poets
Café, and has appeared in HBO's Russell Simmons presents Def Poetry.
Public Events
On Thursday evening, February 22, at 7:30 pm, Emanuel will deliver a reading at Books & Books on Miami Beach, presented in partnership
with Winter Party Festival and Design Within Reach. The next evening, at 7:30 pm, he will host a SpeakOut open mic for GLBT youth at the
Miami Light Project's Lightbox. This open mic event will be presented in partnership with Winter Party Festival. Each participant
(21 and under please) gets a chance to arouse, provoke and inspire with
spoken word poetry! Material must be gay friendly. Then on Saturday afternoon, February 24, at 3:00 pm, Emanuel will deliver a reading at the Naranja Public Library.
