TIGERTAIL PRODUCTIONS, THE CITY OF MIAMI PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT AND ABRIENDO PUERTAS PRESENT

WordSpeak, Paul Flores

WordSpeak is a performance event led by San Francisco spoken word artist Paul Flores and teens from Miami’s Abriendo Puertas and San Francisco’s Youth Speaks. WordSpeak was launched last summer, as part of the Tigertail Summer Youth Program in East Little Havana. Paul Flores led a month-long spoken word workshop where East Little Havana students wrote and performed their own poems. The November performances will include two award-winning teens, Rafael Casal and Emilio Bourgois-Chacon from Youth Speaks. Youth Speaks was founded in San Francisco in 1996 and has consistently been on the forefront of the national movement of young people in urban communities picking up the pen and taking hold of the microphone with a passion that transcends racial, ethnic, class, gender, language and sexual orientation.

This performance is funded, in part, by grants from Allegany Franciscan Foundation, Dade Community Foundation, E.S. Moore Foundation, John S. & James L. Knight Foundation, Joseph H. and Florence A. Roblee Foundation, Publix Super Markets Charities, Riverside Front Porch Revitalization Council and SunTrust.
