TIGERTAIL and CENTRO CULTURAL ESPAÑOL PRESENT

Barcelona's Jordi Cortés and Damián Muñoz

Ölelés – Gripping, Visceral Dance

&ndash a production of Alta Realitat and La Intrusa Danza

This award-winning extended evening-length duet for two men, Ölelés marks the first collaboration between acclaimed Catalán choreographers and performers Jordi Cortés and Damián Muñoz – two of Spain's most innovative young dance artists. Gripping, physically intense and genuinely lyrical, this award-winning extended evening-length duet is based writer Sándor Márai's 1942 masterpiece Embers.

This high-velocity, nearly violent piece dramatizes the bitter reunion of two long-estranged friends, who look back to the fateful betrayal that shattered their bond 40 years earlier. Ölelés has received the Ciudad de Barcelona Award and the Premio de la Feria Internacional de Huesca.

Cortés has performed with DV8 Physical Theatre in London, among others, and Muñoz, who formed his own company in 1995 and is dubbed the Almodóvar of dance in Spain. This simmering physical theatre work is guaranteed to draw the audience through an intense and furious male bonding.

Embers would make excellent preparatory reading for this event. It can be ordered from Books & Books for only $14.
