TIGERTAIL and FLORIDA DANCE ASSOCIATION PRESENT

Acclaimed Company from Germany

Also appearing in the December 27 Florida Dance Association’s WinterFest concert are improvisational dance artists Chris Aiken and Angie Hauser.

Choreographer, company founder and dancer Gerda König returns to Miami with Body Distance Between the Minds, a dream-like, sensual and boundary crossing duet between a woman—performed by company founder and choreographer Gerda König—and company dancer Marc Stuhlmann, that explores the universal longing for touch. Includes nudity.

DIN A 13 is one of the foremost groups internationally to integrate dancers with and without disabilities. Gerda König founded the company in 1995 and since then has staged numerous feature-length productions that have been performed at dance festivals in Europe, Africa and in North and South America. In recent years she has passed on her many years of experience in working artistically with mixed-ability dancers in the form of diverse dance commissions, including some in the United States and Ethiopia. König herself expresses the experience of her own work best when she says, "... with dancers who do not conform to the usual social and aesthetic norms, I am impressed time and time again by the beauty and perfection of their unique movements."

"DIN A 13 reshapes the human body." – die TAZ

DOCUMENTARY FILM
Making the Difference: Dance and Taboo in Sâo Paulo follows Gerda König's groundbreaking work in Brazil with dancers with and without disabilities. Making the Difference shows König creating a new dance work in Sâo Paulo, following her through the audition process and the many intimate moments of the rehearsals over a period of two months. At the same time, the film casts a glance at the hidden taboos of Brazilian society and presents them through the eyes of the dancers. The piece that König her Brazilian collaborators created confronts the audience with provocative questions about our notions of body, beauty and perfection, and so does the film. Sunday, December 28, 7:00 pm, at FIFI Projects art gallery, 167-B N.W. 23rd Street, Wynwood Arts District, Miami. No reservations are required but you can call Tigertail at 305 324 4337 for more information.
