This evening will include a workshop for dancers interested in dance on film and a screening of current films by Gabri Christa, a NYC-based choreographer and filmmaker.

Born and raised in Curaçao, Netherlands Antilles, Gabri Christa brings to her filmmaking and directing her background as a choreographer and performer. Now based in New York, she has received many awards for her choreographies and short films, including a Guggenheim Fellowship for her choreography.

In 2008 Gabri Christa was invited to the Pangea Day Film Festival as "One of the World's 100 most promising Filmmakers." Her film "High School" received an ABC TV award for Creative Excellence.

Her films have screened as Jury finalists in festivals in Tokyo, Atlanta, Denver and in Screen Dance festivals in Los Angeles, London, Amsterdam, New York (Lincoln Center), Monaco, Munich, Capetown, Shanghai, Kumming, Beijing, as well as in museums and galleries.

Her choreography has been performed in Latin America, Europe, the Caribbean and in the US, particularly New York at Central Park Summer Stage, Dance Theater Workshop (5 seasons) PS 122, Symphony Space, Aaron Davis Hall (Harlem Stage), St. Marks Church, Snug Harbor Cultural Center, Center For the Arts at CUNY/CSI, and Judson Church.
